A number of technical terms and acronyms are used in this site:

  • AFTN - Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network
  • AMHS - An X.400 based Air Traffic Services Message Handling System
  • ANSP - Air Traffic Services Network Provider
  • ASN.1 - Abstract Syntax and Notation 1
  • ATN - Aeronautical Telecommunications Network, based on OSI
  • ATN Directory - An X.500 based directory configured for Air Traffic Services use
  • CIDIN - Common ICAO Data Interchange Network
  • ICAO - The International Civil Aviation Organisation
  • ITA2 and IA5 - Internationally standardised character sets
  • MHS - Message Handling System
  • PKI - Public Key Infrastructure
  • PKIC - Public Key Cryptosystem
  • TCP/IP - Transmisssion Control Protocol and Internet Protocol
  • X.400 - a set of ITU-T Recommendations for Message Handling Systems. The International Standards Organisation equivalents are ISO/IEC 10021
  • X.500 - a set of ITU-T Recommendatins for Electronic Directory Systems. The International Standards Organisation equivalents are ISO/IEC 9594
